The Mitchell Water Plan (2007) is due to expire on 31 August 2018. The time is right for new perspectives on how water in the catchment is managed.

Mitchell River has received a community grant from Northern Gulf to undertake a collection of water and soil quality in the Arriga Plains. Progress has started with important early meetings with producers.

Mitchell River was successful in securing two grants through the Northern Gulf Resource Management Group's 2017 Community Small Grants Program. The projects will help conserve habitat for the endangered White-bellied Crimson Finch near Kowanyama, and advance water and soil quality testing in the Arriga Plains district of the Mareeba-Dimbulah Irrigation Area.
